Meet Rachel Broady …

Before interviewing authors, poets and media bosses, the reporters practised their skills by interviewing Rachel Broady who, after 20 years as a journalist working for the News of the World, That’s Life magazine, the Manchester Evening News and many other publications, found being interviewed quite a challenge.

Why did you want to be a journalist?

Rachel used to write stories then put it into schoolbooks and her teacher said “you could be a journalist” and it stuck in her head. She has been a journalist now for 20 years. Rachel is very, very nosey.

What is your favourite country?

Cuba

Have you travelled to any other countries?

Rachel once lived in Australia

Do you have any pets?

She loves cats. She has a cat called Charlie. She stole him. She says he belonged to a neighbour but preferred Rachel

Shena Simon Girls’ School in Manchester

What do you like?

Volcanoes

What do you dislike?

Racism

What scares you?

Cockroaches

Who is the most famous person you have interviewed?

Rachel has interviewed David Beckham and Pink

What do you do in your spare time?

She talks to her cat, reads and watches Emmerdale with her cat

What is your favourite book?

She likes Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. She also likes The Lion. the Witch and the Wardrobe by C S Lewis

Who is your favourite actor?

John Cusack

Who is your favourite songwriter?

Tom Waits

What is your favourite song?

Cyndi Lauper’s version of At Last

What was your proudest moment?

Rachel was proud when she got her first scoop which was about an MP who turned down a knighthood.

How many people have you interviewed?

Rachel can’t say because she has interviewed hundreds and hundreds of people.

What is your ambition?

Rachel would like to study for a PhD.

What instrument can you play?

Rachel is really bad at music.
